The 2009 Porsche 911 should receive more available power and freshened exterior styling. Models that should continue are rear-wheel-drive Carrera, Carrera S, and GT3, plus all-wheel-drive Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Targa 4, Targa 4S, and Turbo. Carreras come as coupes and as Cabriolet convertibles with a power soft top and heated glass rear window. The GT3 and Turbo are coupes. The Targa 4 and 4S are AWD coupes with a 4.8-sq-ft power-sliding roof panel made of translucent glass. All 911s have rear-mounted, horizontally opposed 6-cylinder engines, either sized at 3.6 or 3.8 liters. Carreras and Targa 4 should get boosted from 325 hp to 345 hp and Carrera S and Targa 4S models should jump to 385 from 355. The GT3 will likely continue with 415 hp, and the Turbo with 480. A horsepower-boosting Power Kit should remain available for Carrera S/Targa S. A 6-speed manual transmission should be standard. A 5-speed automatic with manual shift gate and steering-wheel controls should be available except on GT3. A 7-speed automatic may also become available. Available safety features should include ABS, traction control, antiskid control, front side airbags, and curtain side airbags. The Turbo and GT3 should have specific suspension tuning, brakes, and styling. This report is based on evaluations of the 2008 Porsche 911.
